Next week is Veterans Day. Usually around this time, I get many messages from friends and family thanking me for my service. This year I have a request for all those well wishers:

If you really want to thank veterans this year, if you want to show your appreciation for the sacrifices they have made for the sake of Democracy, the best thing you can do is vote on November 6. And if you honestly care about Democracy, then you also need to vote Democrat.

Current Republican leadership is more in favor of Oligarchy than Democracy. In recent years, they have promoted mass efforts to suppress the vote. They have worked to rig the system and muffled the voice of the people. They have sought aid from foreign dictators to influence our elections. They have chosen to ignore the rule of law while making appointments to the Supreme Court. And they continue to defend a President who tramples the Constitution on a daily basis. They are threats to our Democracy and need to be removed from office.

ProtectDemocracyNov6Many veterans have traveled the world to fight dictatorships. Now we have one taking root right here at home. If you want to thank a veteran for their service, don’t use words, use action – use your right to vote, while you still have it. This is what veterans fought for, this is the “service” you are thanking them for, don’t squander it.

Hopefully, we will wake up on November 7 and see a country that is moving forward. Hopefully, we will see a change in leadership that says America still believes in freedom and equality, not hatred and oppression. American citizens standing up for their rights, standing up to dictators and criminals, standing up to protect the weakest among us from hate-filled bullies – that is how you say “Thank You” to military veterans who fought for the exact same things.

I hope this year on Veterans Day, I get to say to all my friends and families: Thank You for your service at the ballot box. Make me proud America.
